Water In The Wine (Bottle)

Am I the only one who can't keep track of which indoor plants have been watered? I've drowned some, starved others and can never manage to keep these things on schedule. So I set about finding a better solution and found this tip on a gardening site. I tried it out on two of my most problematic house plants, a miniature lemon tree (cleverly disguised as a collection of twigs with a couple of leaves hanging on for dear life) and a star pointed Jasmine plant which is surprising doing quite well in our kitchen after spending the summer out on the deck contemplating suicide.

Start with an empty wine bottle, some small stones (available in any garden or craft store), 1 elastic band and a small circle of fabric.

Simply rinse out the bottle and add the stones.
I found about 2 inches of stone kept the lemon tree happy, a little less for the Jasmine.
Add water and then use the elastic band to secure the fabric across the top of the bottle.

Hold the bottle upside down over the sink to get an idea of how quickly the water will leak out and adjust the stones as necessary.
Then just bury the neck of the bottle in the pot and you should be good for 2-3 weeks!!

At least as far was watering goes. Our plants will still need to contend with a few 'adjustments' from the little one and the occasional invasion of Mega Blocks.
