Mint is a perennial with very fragrant, toothed leaves and tiny purple, pink, or white flowers. It has a fruity, aromatic taste. The mint family has many varieties, but it will take over your garden, so be careful where you plant it.

This is a yearly favorite on our deck. I like to grow it in our deck rail planters because • It's contained so it doesn't take over the neighborhood • It's easy to move around to get exposure just right • It's at just the right height to appreciate the smell while people are milling about on the deck • It's easy to grab a leaf or two for a quick Mojito on a cool summer night
